As part of its strategic initiative for 2016-2021, the CLB is pursuing its policy of developing partnerships and collaborations at the national, European and international levels. It is the second center for the fight against cancer in France to have been accredited (in 2017) by the European Organization of Cancer Institutes (OECI), following Gustave Roussy.
Clinical research in Oncology is an essential stage since it measures tolerance and efficiency of drugs directly on patients. Patients receive these new treatments or treatment protocols in clinical trials.
Clinical and innovation Research at the CLB is led by Dr David Pérol. He aims to carry on evaluation of new therapies in the coming years, especially through clinical trials focused on the identification of molecular alterations to try and adapt treatments according to genetic abnormalities detected in tumours, what is usually called: precision medicine.
Transfer research is the essential link between basic research, which helps to understand crucial biologic mechanisms leading to tumours, and clinical research which is directly carried out with patients.
The department of transfer research and innovation of the Centre Léon Bérard, ran by Patrick Mehlen, develops multidisciplinary works, from biology to human and social sciences, to surgery or radiotherapy.
1 major objective: speed up scientific findings and their implementation on patients, to get a more and more personalized medicine which can be tailored to different types of tumours, but also to each patient.
